PROJECT SPOTLIGHT
Historic Hacienda gets a Facelift
When the owners of a Montecito Hacienda decided to give the exterior of their home a fresh look, they knew that by simply switching out the old exterior lights with new, statement-making, heirloom-quality lanterns, they could easily contemporize the look of their house.
The Presidio Lantern was perfect for the job, and was especially fitting since the house was originally built to echo some of the design qualities seen in the historic Presidio in Santa Barbara.
With classic Spanish profiles and French detailing, the Presidio lantern has been used on a variety of architectural backdrops, and was just at home amongst the creamy walls, exposed beams and red tile roof of this Spanish Adobe as it would be on a shingled Nantucket or a Queen Anne Victorian.
Architect Britt Jewett, Santa Barbara Lighting Company's principal designer, was commissioned to design balcony and staircase railings to compliment existing iron work as well as the new lanterns. He pulled design motifs from both, blending them to create a beautifully intricate and original pattern that suits the style and feel of the house and its owners.
Santa Barbara Lighting Company’s wrought iron lanterns evoke the quality and aesthetic of times past, with an unique take on the historical and their use of heavy-gauge iron, skillfully forged by local metal artisans.
